The formula

A quarter note lasts 60,000 ÷ BPM milliseconds. At 120 BPM that is 500 ms. Halve it for an eighth note and double it for a half note. A dotted note is 1.5 times the straight value, and a triplet is two thirds of it.

Setting a synced delay

Type the millisecond value into a delay that has no tempo sync, or use it to check a synced one. Dotted eighths (375 ms at 120 BPM) give the classic rolling echo; quarter and eighth notes sit tightly in the groove.

Reverb pre-delay and decay

A pre-delay of a 1/64 or 1/32 note keeps the start of a vocal clear of its reverb. For decay, a common starting point is a note value minus the pre-delay, so the tail finishes before the next beat or bar. Treat these as starting points and trust your ears.
